1977
The Founding Vision
Alan Stevenson, already a veteran of the insurance industry, established The Alan Stevenson Partnership in Altrincham in 1977. An office was acquired in central Altrincham which is still in use to this day.
The business was taken over by son Peter Stevenson, supported by Director Chris Hankey and rebranded to The Stevenson Insurance Group.
Each client is part of our extended family of businesses and people, who appreciate the skill and care of an expert to survive the occasional catastrophes of life when properly insured.
Predominantly a commercial/business insurance broker, we do provide personal insurance for our valued customers as a “one stop shop” service.
2009
InFocus Photography Insurance Brand Launched
2009 saw the launch of an innovative and bespoke photography insurance scheme, branded “InFocus” and fronted by Freddie the InFocus Frog!
InFocus Insurance provides insurance protection for photographers and videographers and is a regular attender of specialist trade shows.
2021
The Stevenson Group Acquires Seacombe Insurance
January 2021 saw The Stevenson Insurance Group’s first acquisition, welcoming Seacombe Insurance brokers to the group family. Based in Altrincham, Chris Hankey and Nick Dolan both became directors of The Stevenson Insurance Group and their team continued to service their clients from a central Altrincham location.

2022
The Stevenson Group Takes Minority Stake in JTS Insurance
May 2022 saw The Stevenson Insurance Group take a minority stake in JTS Insurance, who are based in Worsley, further expanding our Manchester connections and footprint.
July 2023
The Stevenson Group Acquire Whitefields Insurance
In July 2023, The Stevenson Insurance Group acquired Whitefield Insurance, based in Ramsbottom. This deal was the perfect succession solution for proprietors Stephen and Delphina Hopwood, a husband and wife team, stepped down as Directors but continue to work in the business and remain fully hands on with their current clients.
October 2023
The Stevenson Group Acquire BLS Insurance
Our most recent deal, in October 2023, was the acquisition of a great business – BLS Insurance who are based in Bury. This takes our Group GWP to over £6million, with 2 locations covering the North and South of Manchester.
At the time, Group MD Peter Stevenson commented:
“BLS Insurance is a great acquisition for The Stevenson Insurance Group. They are an excellent regional fit and allow us to expand our footprint in the North West, and we are very familiar with BLS as our Director Chris Hankey has known them for many years.
We now have locations in Altrincham, Ramsbottom and Bury – the specialist nature of the staff in all three locations will complement the drive for enhanced service and growth.

DirectorSince joining The Stevenson Group in 1979, Peter is a specialist in Construction professions and trades, Property Developers and Owners, Hotels, Sports and Leisure clubs, IT, TV, Film and Photography and more. Peter has overseen the mergers of Sea combe Insurance ltd, Whitefield Insurance of Ramsbottom and BLS of Bury into TSG, and his strong customer focus remains at the heart of this growing business.

We are an insurance broker with 2 offices in Manchester – Altrincham, Bury and Ramsbottom. We look after over £6m worth of insurance premiums for our clients each year.
We are predominately a business insurance broker, but we do personal insurance for our VIP clients too.
We have grown organically and via carefully selected acquisitions. Our core umbrella brand is “The Stevenson Insurance Group” and sub brands are BLS Insurance, InFocus Photography Insurance, Seacombe Insurance and Whitefields Insurance.
The Manchester bee is a symbol of the city’s history, hard work, and unity – so very apt for The Stevenson Insurance Group with 2 offices covering North and South Manchester! It also looks a bit like a shield too, with insurance and protection connotations.
We will contact you a month before your renewal date(s), re-check the policy details with you as your business needs may have changed, and then we will shop the market to find you the best renewal terms. It maybe with your previous insurer or perhaps we will recommend more favourable terms and policy benefits with another underwriter.

We started trading in 1977, so we will be turning 50 soon! Like most people in their middle age, we are older and wiser…but still full of youthful enthusiasm…so a perfect balance of experience and tenacity!
